Restrictions in gletex

Multiple simultaneous execution of gletex can create inconsistent states of the internal database and therefore wrong outputs. Once such state is reached, the problem remains even if gletex is started again. Usually gletex recognizes the problem of multiple starts with a simple file locking mechanism. gletex stops then with a message that it is not allowed to run gletex twice at the same time. The failure of this mechanism is somehow academic.

An inconsistent database state is also created if gletex is canceled during its execution, but then you'll get the problem description message for sure next time you run gletex. The inconsistent database should be deleted by running "rm -rf ~/.gletextemp" in this case.

There are some additional restrictions. The following list has mainly infomativ character and doesn't necessarily describe all possible problems.

  • gletex creates only encapsulated postscript files; other output media of gle are not supported
  • gle can't handle file names with capital letters! The best way is to omit those things completely, otherwise you'll have troubles for sure. Because of this gle problem, the users home directory shouldn't contain capitals as well as the gletex installation directiory.
  • gle gives wrong line numbers in error messages because of an include command inserted by gletex directly after the initial size command of the gletex file. gle add the number of lines from the inserted file, which has exactly 100 lines. These need to be subtracted from the line number given in the error message to get the real line number.
  • The number of (La)TeX expressions in a gletex file is limited by the size of the database. This size can be modified, but this is not done automatically if gletex reaches the current limit (its default value is 50).
